Cunard flagship Queen Mary 2 made her inaugural visit to Amber Cove in Puerto Plata on Tuesday 24 November 2015, arriving from Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. This was the first time that the Queen Mary 2 has been to the country.
The ship’s arrival was celebrated with a traditional maritime ceremony aboard, during which port officials and dignitaries exchanged decorative plaques with Captain Kevin Oprey to commemorate the maiden visit. Local executives who welcomed the ship included Vice Minister of Tourism Julio Almonte, Director of National Police, Colonel Jose Isaias Santana Morillo and Commander of the Air Force, General Richard Vazquez.
The ship is also due to return in January 2015 as part of her round the world-cruise.
