Request to ban gory photos

FNP deputy Vinicio Castillo Seman plans to submit a bill to Congress aimed at preventing people and the media from publishing photographs and videos of accident and murder victims on the grounds that these images affect their dignity and add to the pain their relatives are experiencing

Castillo Seman, currently candidate for senator for the National District said that the case of the murder of Mayor Juan de los Santos had confirmed that the country should have modern legislation that protects the dignity of people who die violent deaths without affecting freedom of expression and information.

He added that the publication of such images has a major psychological impact on the friends and relatives and it was time that the Dominican Republic started to be regulated in this respect as is the case in other modern societies.
