A 35-foot long speedboat was detained in San Pedro de Macoris at Playa Caleton by the Dominican Armada (ARD) and the Air Force (FARD) in the early morning of Monday, 4 July 2016. On board were 919 packages suspected to be cocaine or heroin that may have been shipped from Colombia. Two Colombians and three Dominicans were arrested in the incident. Among those detained is the so-named “Julito Kilo.” Two others were thought to have escaped. A US Coast Guard aircraft assisted in the operation. Also participating was a Super Tucano airplane.
The DNCD reports a second shipment of drugs was seized at the Playa del Muerto, also in San Pedro de Macoris as it was being prepared by “Julito Kilo” to be shipped.
Diario Libre reports that “Julito Kilo” has a long track record of being linked to organized crime.
In June 2016, the DNCD reported the seizing of a shipment of 324 packages of cocaine or heroin in the interior of a freight truck at the entrance of the Caucedo Multimodal Port.
