Dr. Edgar Perez’s Sociedad ProArte Latinoamericana presents the short humorous 3-act operetta, “The Gypsy Princess” (La Princesa de las Csardas) at the National Theater on 15-16 July 2016 at 8:30pm. Participating in the performance is the 64 piece Orquesta Filarmonica, directed by Carlos Andres Mejia Zuluaga, a Venezuelan-Colombian conductor who resides in the Dominican Republic. On stage will be more than 60 artists, included singers, chorus members and dancers. Also participating are members of the National Choir and the National Dominican Ballet. Artistic direction is by Anton Fustier, scenography by Carlos Palacio of Argentina. Choreography is by first dancer Armando Martinez.
Dominican actors include Maria Castillo, Mario Lebron, Karoline Becker. Guest actors who will appear include Nathalie Avila and Israel Gonzalez from Cuba. From the United States, Dominican expat baritone, Mario Martinez will be participating.
The setting of the play is a cabaret during early 20th Century. The music score is by Hungarian composer Emmerich Kalman, libretto by Leo Stein and Bela Jenbach. The operetta premiered in Vienna in 1915. Several film versions have been made.
Tickets are RD$500, RD$700, RD$1,200, RD$1,300, RD$1,800 and RD$2,700 at the National Theater.
