The Dominican Association of Textile Industries (Aditex) called for the Senate to support a petition from domestic manufacturers that are participating in the 8 July 2016 public tender SEN-CCC-LPN-2016-01 to supply the Ministry of Education with backpacks, presumably for children attending public schools.
The president of the Association, Juan Llopart spoke on behalf of members of textile associations that are participating in this tender. He expressed hope that they would be successful in winning the tender based on Decree 164-13, that states that the priority in government procurement be given to local companies. Llopart said he represents small and medium sized companies that collectively generate the most jobs in the economy.
He reiterated that the Senate should take into account the backpacks manufactured in the country are of high quality and designed to hold up to heavy use.
