According to constitutional lawyer, Eduardo Jorge Prats, members of the Dominican military and government officials are taking bribes and assisting in the trafficking immigrants, which are leading to a flood of Haitians entering the Dominican Republic.
He maintained that some representatives of government agencies and military officers stationed at the border are negotiating with the migrants to allow them to enter the DR without proper documents. Jorge Prats, however, declined to identify those Dominican officials or military officers who may be involved.
Being interviewed by Huchi Lora and Amelia Deschamps on the program El Día on Telesistema, Channel 11, the adviser to the Attorney General’s Office said that the government had an obligation to protect the border.
