Dominican Republic – Coronavirus Covid-19: Bulletin #68/25 May 2020

According to Coronavirus Bulletin #68 of the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology, the Dominican Republic has 15,264 confirmed cases, 191 new confirmed cases and 468 deaths, including eight new deaths. 2,210 patients are hospitalized, down from 2,292 the previous day. The total includes 116 in intensive care units. The results are from 70,972 PCR diagnostic tests.

The quantity of PCR tests stats for the previous 14 reported days are: 1,364 (Bulletin #67), 1,668 (Bulletin #66), 1,836 (Bulletin #65), 2,189 (Bulletin #64), 1,354 (Bulletin#63), 1,619 (Bulletin #62), 2,888 (Bulletin #61), 2,189 (Bulletin #60), 921 (Bulletin #59), 2,251 (Bulletin #58), 2,991 (Bulletin #57), 657 (Bulletin #56), 1,792 (Bulletin #55), 1,038 (Bulletin #54). The Pan American Health Organization says that the country needs to continue to show consistency in testing before further easing activity restrictions.

The statistical reports do not include results from rapid response blood antibody tests or patients diagnosed with tomography or other means. The Dominican Republic has a population of more than 10 million people.

The Ministry of Public Health has included a new column in the Epidemiological Bulletin with the number of PCR diagnostic tests in the National District or the 31 provinces. This confirms that half of the PCR tests (49%) have been carried out in Greater Santo Domingo. Greater Santo Domingo is made up by the National District and the province of Santo Domingo and has a third of the national population. The confirmed cases also represent half of the cumulative total for the country.

As of Monday, 25 May 2020 at 6pm, the most confirmed cases continue to be reported in the National District and Santo Domingo Province, Santiago, La Vega, Duarte, San Cristobal, Espaillat, La Romana, Puerto Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Hermanas Mirabal and La Altagracia. All other provinces report 200 or less cases.

The largest increases in new confirmed cases were reported for the Santo Domingo Province (83), National District (59), Santiago (18), La Altagracia (9), Azua (6), San Cristóbal (3), La Vega (2), Peravia (2), and Espaillat (2). The Ministry of Public Health reports 1 or less confirmed cases in 24 of 31 provinces and the National District.
