Dominican Republic – Coronavirus Covid-19: Bulletin 97/23 June 2020

According to Coronavirus Bulletin #97 of the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology, the Dominican Republic has 28,631 confirmed cases, 695 new confirmed cases from 133,718 PCR diagnostic tests. The number of PCR cases for the bulletin is 2,973, up from 1,970 the previous day.

The tally of deaths is now 691, including 16 new registered deaths, that compares to the 10.1 previous 14-day average.

As of Bulletin #97, 2,839 patients are hospitalized, up from 2,824 patients reported in the previous bulletin. Of these, 182 patients are in intensive care units. The fatality rate, the number of reported deaths per number of confirmed cases, is 2.41%, down from 2.42% in the previous bulletin.

The average testing over the past 14 days is now at 2,405 PCR tests. The numbers of diagnostic tests carried out over the past 14 days [the difference between the PCR tests reported in the past bulletin] are: 2,973 (Bulletin #97), 1,970 (Bulletin #96), 2,907 (Bulletin #95), 3,222 (Bulletin #94), 3,327 (Bulletin #93), 2,200 (Bulletin #92), 2,584 (Bulletin #91), 1,932 (Bulletin (#90), 1,822 (Bulletin #89), 1,759 (Bulletin #88), 1,847 (Bulletin #87), 2,159 (Bulletin #86), 2,516 (Bulletin #85), 2,465 (Bulletin #84).

The statistical reports do not include rapid response blood antibody tests or patients diagnosed with tomography or other means. The Dominican Republic has a population of more than 10 million people.

As of Tuesday, 23 June 2020 at 4pm, the most confirmed cases continue to be reported in urban areas where most of the tests are carried out. Greater Santo Domingo (Santo Domingo province and the National District) has 54.6% of the 28,631 total confirmed cases. Santiago, San Cristobal, La Vega, Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís), Espaillat, La Romana, La Altagracia (Higuey, Verón, Punta Cana), Puerto Plata, Azua, Monseñor Nouel (Bonao), Barahona, Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí), Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo), San Juan de la Maguana and San Pedro de Macoris are provinces that have 200 or more cases.

The most new cases or recently allocated cases reported for the 23 June deadline are: Santo Domingo province (204), National District (136), Santiago (52), San Cristóbal (32), La Altagracia (12), La Romana (10), Monseñor Nouel (10), La Vega (7), San Juan de la Maguana (7), Hermanas Mirabal (6), Azua (6), Puerto Plata (5), San Pedro de Macoris (4), Peravia (4), María Trinidad Sánchez (3), Sánchez Ramírez (2), Valverde (2), Espaillat (2) and Samaná (2). The Ministry of Public Health reports one or no confirmed cases in 12 of 31 provinces and the National District. The number of recorded cases is dependent on the availability of PCR tests that continue to be scarce, especially in the provinces where waiting lists are long.
