New rector at Catholic University of Santo Domingo

The Catholic University Foundation, the governing body for the Catholic University of Santo Domingo and Bishop Francisco Ozoria Acosta, have named Bishop Benito Angeles rector of the university, replacing Bishop Jesus Castro Marte. The bishop had been named by Pope Francisco last week to head the dioceses of Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia in Higüey.

The handover took place late last week at the university. Monsignor Angeles studied Philosophy at the Madre y Maestra Catholic University (UCMM, before it became Pontifical), and went on to study at the Santo Tomas Seminary in Santo Domingo. He later received a doctorate at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, USA.

He had been the rector of the Catholic Technological University in La Vega, yet has worked actively with youth in different barrios of the National District. He is an avid sports fan.
