Police confirms two in La Vega arrest are in Police ranks

The National Police confirmed that businessman Miguel Arturo Lopez Florencio and his son, Jose Miguel Lopez Pilarte are members of the law enforcement body. Lopez Pilarte is a city councilor for the PRM. Attorney General prosecutors arrested these two. Lopez Pilarte’s mother, Rosa Amalia Pilarte, was also arrested. She is running for deputy for La Vega province in the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) in the 5 July presidential and congressional election. The family is accused of being part of a drug trafficking and money laundering network. The Attorney General has yet to press charges.

The Police confirmed Lopez Florencio was admitted to the Police in 2011.

El Dia reports that both men appear with wages of RD$11,840.38 on the Police payroll.

In a back page editorial, Diario Libre wonders aloud about the frequency of similar cases of arrests suddenly uncovering those accused were in the ranks of the Police.
