President Danilo Medina handed over the Malpaso Interagency Base, on the border with Haiti. This is the eighth border post that serves as base for joint operations by Dominican agencies in security, intelligence, and border surveillance, strengthening migratory and customs controls, and combatting the trafficking of weapons, people, and goods. Agents at the post also seek to provide assistance to prevent diseases, establish controls on animal and plant health.
The Presidency announced that the center is equipped with state-of-the-art technological resources and is intended to facilitate the interagency actions led by the Ministry of Defense through the Command and Control, Communication, Intelligence and Cybersecurity Center (C5i).
With these facilities, the total number of interagency posts built from 2017 to date is eight. A ninth, at Vicente Noble, is being completed for delivery and commissioning.
The agencies operating at these border management posts are Ministry of Defense (J-2 Intelligence Agency), Dominican Republic Army and the Ministries of Health, Agriculture and Environment. Also, the General Customs Agency, Immigration and the National Police, as well as the Judicial Ministry, the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) and the National Investigation Agency (DNI).
