The Center for Export and Investment of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD) says that Dominican exports increased by 7.6% year-on-year in August 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, reaching the figure of $895.6 million, according to data published by the Customs Agency (DGA).
Official statistics show that August is the first month when an increase in exports is reported since March when the first Covid-19 case was reported in the Dominican Republic.
Biviana Riveiro Disla, director of the CEI-RD, says the August numbers break five months of decline in exports. She is optimistic actions by the new government will bring new stability and an economic turnaround.
Among the Dominican Republic’s main trading partners, countries such as Canada stand out, which experienced growth of over 1000%, Switzerland with growth of over 60%, the Netherlands and Germany with similar growth. Gold exports lead Dominican exports in August.
