Coronavirus Covid-19 Bulletin #193/27 September

The Ministry of Public Health’s Epidemiology Department Coronavirus Bulletin #193 reports 280 cases of persons testing positive to PCR tests over the past 24 hours. The number of cases has kept under 500 for the first time in the past seven days. The health ministry announced the processing of 2,160 first PCR tests in time for the Saturday, 27 September deadline. The 14-day average for first PCR tests is now at 3,695 PCR tests. The Ministry of Public Health says the demand for PCR tests has declined.

Nevertheless, as evidenced internationally, local epidemiologists alert that the spread of the virus comes and goes. This situation is why the Ministry of Public Health continues to recommend keeping a curfew and preventive measures. The new curfew is in effect since Monday, 28 September 2020 and is 9pm to 5am Monday to Friday, and 7pm to 5am on Saturdays and Sundays.

As per Bulletin #193, with the deadline of 27 September 2020, the Ministry of Public Health has registered 111,666 confirmed cases since the first case on 1 March 2020.

There are 23,146 active cases as of the 27 September deadline, down 180 patients from the previous day. The number of active cases has been steadily declining.

The number of deaths is 2,098, including three deaths recorded and one occurring in the past 24 hours. In a population of more than 10 million, the fatality rate is 1.88% over the past four weeks. The fatality rate per 1M inhabitants is 200.79. The Ministry of Public Health reports that the average 1M inhabitants’ fatality rate for the Americas is 524.

Worldometer lists the 1M deaths per inhabitant rate for Spain at 672, the United States at 632, France 487, Colombia 500, Canada at 245 and the Dominican Republic at 194.

The Ministry of Public Health report indicates that 24% of Covid-19 hospital beds are occupied (828 of 3,475 total available). 35% of the intensive care units for Covid-19 are occupied (194 of 557 beds). Health Minister Plutarco Arias says that the emphasis is on detecting the cases early on, so fewer persons require hospitalization.
