Milagros Ortiz Bosch asks Chamber of Accounts president to stay in until February 2021

The director of Ethics for the Abinader administration, former Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch has asked the Chamber of Accounts president Hugo Alvarez Perez to stay on the job until the appointment expires in February 2021. On Thursday, 7 October 2020, President Luis Abinader had asked the Chamber of Accounts members to resign as they have not carried out serious audits throughout their terms. Abinader called the members accomplices to corruption in the past government.

She said Alvarez Perez’s resignation would only delay the results of the investigations into corruption and the submitting for prosecution of those who have failed to comply with their obligation of transparency and with the Ethical Commitment that government officers signed at the start of the new government on 16 August 2020.

Regarding the case of the Minister of Youth Kinsberly (Kimberly) Taveras, Ortiz Bosch said that her office would review this in the short term to meet people’s expectations, the government’s interest, that of the minister herself, and of the families involved.
