Moving from Puerto Plata to Punta Cana? Now you can take your home line with you

The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) has made it easier for Dominicans to relocate. As of Tuesday, 27 October 2020, there is no additional charge for calling fixed lines nationwide. Previously, the telecom companies charged for the calls and the use of 1+ was needed to complete the calls. No more.

All fixed lines are now part of the Single Rate Zone with the same rate for all calls. The National Long Distance rate is removed. This means that all calls made between the National District and the 31 provinces have the same price as a local call.

Julissa Cruz, executive director of Indotel, explains that 10% of the calls now made in the country are made to fixed lines.

Cruz said this also means that if for years your home number was located in Puerto Plata and you moved to Santo Domingo or Punta Cana for work, you can take your number with you. The measure allows the possibility of carrying fixed numbers between the provinces, and also the National District. Users can now request number portability when changing the fixed telephone public service provider, regardless of the city or province. This means that you can change your telephone service provider and carry your same number anywhere in the country.
