DR defeats US Virgin Islands in FIBA AmeriCup 2022

Team Dominican Republic defeated Team US Virgin Islands 89-75 on Sunday, 29 November 2020 in the “basketball bubble” created for Group C in the FIBA AmeriCup 2022 Qualifier. The DR now leads in Group C with a standing of 2 games won and one lost.

The matches are played at the basketball court set up at the Hard Rock Fillmore Ballroom of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana. The team will match Cuba tonight. The Monday, 30 November game will be televised for Dominican audiences as of 8:30pm.

During the Sunday game against the US Virgin Islands, Dominican center Eloy Vargas scored 23 points, followed by Sadiel Rojas with 15 and Gelvis Solano with 12. Gregorio Milligan was the lead scorer for the US Virgin Islands with 20, followed by Ivan Aska with 18 and Walter Hodge with 12.

As reported, the Dominican team controlled the game from start to finish.

The Dominican Republic will now play Cuba. A third Group C team, Canada, chose not to come for the qualifier round.
