DR to play Venezuela in Tokyo Olympics baseball qualifier

Team Dominican Republic made the four-team Super Round competition in the WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier that decides who gets a slot to participate in the Tokyo Summer Olympics. The other three teams are USA, Canada and Venezuela. Cuba, Colombia, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico were eliminated in the first round of the Florida baseball qualifier.

Team Dominican Republic (ranked 10th) is scheduled to play Venezuela (ranked 13th) in the Super Round of the WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier this Friday, 4 June. The game is set for 1pm at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach. On the same day, at 7pm Team Canada (ranked 14th) will play Team USA (ranked 2nd) at the same ball park.

On Saturday, 5 June, Canada will then play the DR at 1pm at the Clover Park, St. Lucie, Florida. At 7pm, Venezuela will play the USA.

The winners of these games will then play on Sunday, 6 June for the available slot to the Tokyo Olympics. The winner will join the four teams that had previously qualified for the Olympics that are Japan, Israel, Mexico and South Korea.

The teams that come in second and third will get a final shot at making the six-team Tokyo Olympics baseball event by playing in the Puebla, Mexico qualifier set to take place 22 to 26 June 2021.
