Pan American Volleyball Cup in Santo Domingo

Some of the best volleyball players in the Americas are in Santo Domingo, participating in the Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup. The matches are played at the Ricardo Arias Pavilion in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center from 1 to 9 September 2021. Competing teams are from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Suriname, Puerto Rico and the host Dominican Republic.

Team USA finished first in the preliminary round after defeating Canada 3-2. Interestingly, the DR beat Team USA at the start of the tournament 3-2 (25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 17-25, 15-8). The DR had defeated Puerto Rico 3-1 (31-29, 31-33, 27-25, 27-25). But the local team would then lose to Canada 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-16) and Mexico 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 19-25, 25-18 and 15-13).

The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) is the event organizer. The event is a qualifier for the America’s Cup and the Pan American Games.
