CHTA adopts CHICOS 2013
The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association and the Caribbean Tourism Organization announced they will be co-hosting the third-annual Caribbean Hospitality Investment Conference and Operations Summit (CHICOS) 7-8 November at the Hard Rock Hotel Punta Cana. The leading regional organization joins its own longstanding Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference with the HVS' CHICOS event.
"With our strength in appealing to the leading investors, developers and brands in the Caribbean and with CHTA and CTO's ability to gather the region's governmental and private sector leadership, our partnership for CHICOS is truly the perfect marriage," said Parris E. Jordan, managing director of HVS in the Caribbean and executive director of the CHICOS conference.
CHICOS was first launched by HVS in 2011, bringing together investors and operators from the region and abroad.
This year's conference will focus on international investment in the Caribbean.
"CHICOS will now certainly become a bigger, stronger conference with our three organizations working together," said Richard Doumeng, president of the CHTA. "With CHTA, CTO and HVS combined, CHICOS will serve the industry as the official and leading hospitality and tourism investment conference for the Caribbean region."
Puerto Plata chosen for CCN's Pride of My Land 2014
The province of Puerto Plata is the focus of Centro Cuesta Nacional's promotional efforts this year and next, under the "Pride of My Land" social corporate responsibility program. The program previously has focused on Samana (in the Northeast), Barahona & Pedernales (in the Southwest), La Vega (in the central Dominican Republic) and Puerto Plata (in the North). The program encompasses talks, workshops, photography contests, a 40-minute documentary and publishing of a CD and books with excellent photography on the destinations that will be available on Puerto Plata in 2014.
The program focuses both on its touristic attractions, its people, its point of differentiation, its authentic products and its culture. As part of the program, educational events are held with talks in schools and universities in the months leading to the presentation of the books and video and other promotional articles. The superstore chain turns the event into an opportunity to highlight local products in their stores nationwide, including the presentation of fashion, music and art in tableware collectibles.
