“They learn from us and we learn from them. It enables them to explore their talents, and the budding young artists can experience what it is like to work with an artist.”

The summer camp, “Summer Adventure in the Caribbean” that ran between 5 and 29 July was a display where imagination was the starting point for the participating children. The creative activities were carried out through exploring a wide range of artwork - painting, engraving, sculpture, music and theater.

Public Art
An important mission for Centro Leon is to promote the development of new schools of art. “It is about training new generations, creating awareness through a series of workshops, exhibitions, talks and the process of promoting the artists that the Centro Leon achieves through its live presentations,” explain Angela Garcia and Camilo Venegas.

With this in mind, the Center organized an activity dubbed, “My Community is Neat,” earlier this summer, in which artists who have exhibited at the Center interacted with the community. The artists and their followers mobilized the spontaneous talent of Santiago students, painting abandoned 55-gallon oil drums with themes related to Earth Day. These oil drums were donated to the communities for use as garbage cans. Now there is art in seven of Santiago’s parks and squares: Chilote Llenas (27 de Febrero), Hermano Anselmo (El Ejido next to Club Sameji), Los Jazmines (Av. Los Jazmines next to the ball park), Villa Olga (Calle 10), San Lorenzo (Cien Fuego) and Hoya de Caimito (on the Tamboril road) and Los Trabajadores.
