Angela Garcia emphasizes that art needs to be taken to the people and the cities and hopes that they can extend the
“My Community is Neat” activity to barrios in Santo Domingo (7 August), Bonao and Puerto Plata in the near future.
“This is part of Centro Leon’s general work to help Dominicans find their own identity in their art,” concludes Angela
Garcia, confirming Centro Leon’s commitment to take art to the public.
Centro Leon goes international
As part of its work to project Dominican national culture, Centro Leon took its collections abroad. Accepting an invitation
to travel to Europe this fall, the cultural center presented a selection from its important photography collection at the
Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno, in Valencia, Spain.
At year’s end, Centro Leon presented the traveling exhibition, “Voces y Visiones: Highlights from El Museo del Barrio’s
Permanent Collection.” This is a selection of works from the Museo del Barrio’s permanent collection, a well-known
institution in New York, with which an active exchange program is undergoing.
Centro Leon is at Av. 27 de Febrero No. 146, Villa Progreso, in Santiago, and is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9
to 6pm and on Wednesdays, from 9 to 8pm. For more information, call 809 582-2315 or visit the Center’s website at
