Aisha Syed Violin Concert
Dominican star violinist Aisha Syed will be in Santiago for a benefit concern for Fundolor, a foundation that helps victims of cancer. The presentation will be at 8:30pm at the Santiago Gran Teatro del Cibao. She will be accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Alvaro Manzano. A child music produgy, Syed made her debut with the National Symphony Orchestra when she was 11 years old. She will play Concert for violin No. 2 in G minor, Opus 63 by Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev. This will be her fifth concert with the National Symphony as a soloist. Syed studies at the Yehudi Menuhin School in London.

Tania & Milagros together for show
Tania Baez and Milagros German, two of the leading Dominican TV variety show hosts, are tugether in a musical set to open at the National Theater on Friday, 5 September. A comedy, "Glamour, Sex, Divas and Other Lies" takes from their own lives. This is a production by award-winning Waddys Jaquez. Jaquez says that the idea for the show evolved out of their mutual friendship. Tickets for sale at the National Theater box office.

DR Jazz Festival
The Dominican Republic Jazz Festival will again be held this year, for five days this time in November at stages in Cabarete Beach and Santiago (Teatro Cibao). Since its first year, the festival has presented a score of notable players, including Chuck Mangione, David Sanchez, Ray Baretto, Nestor Towers, Gossipy Valdes and Arturo Sandoval, some Grammy award winners. �What makes this event even more special is that it moves to a different city every day given the public an opportunity experience jazz in different venues and with a variety of performers,� say organizer The Festival of Jazz is the most anticipated cultural event on the north coast and the only festival directed to a tourist and local residents. And for seven years, the DR Jazz Festival has been host to legendary musicians with an impeccable technical production, sound and professional stenography. As part of the festival, educational workshops with the performers geared to the local youth are held, to encourage them to get involved in the arts.

7th Caribbean Laser Midwinter
The 7th Caribbean Laser Midwinter is set for 16-18 January 2009. The event marks the start of the world's laser regatta calendar. Past world champions, and Olympians, usually participate in the regatta, together with master sailors of all levels. The cozy venue allows all sailors to really mingle, and learn a lot from one another. The 7th Caribbean Laser Midwinter Regatta boasts $5,000 in prize money, and a recognition by ISAF with the results effecting world rankings.The event is held a week before the Miami Olympic Regatta (OCR) that allows sailors to easily participate in both events.
