Reliving 16th Century splendor at the Alcazar The Alcazar Museum of the Colonial City presents every Saturday evening at the Plaza de Espana, Noches Vivas del Alcazar, reliving the times of the splendor of the Alcazar Palace. Actors in 16th century attire, bring back the days of the court of Don Diego Colon and Maria de Toledo. The costumes have been designed by leading Dominican designers, including Leonel Lirio, Hipolito Pena, Robert Flores, Giannina Azar, Magaly Tiburcio, Jorge Diep, Luis Rivas, Berkola, Carla Carbonell, Luis Dominguez and Carlos de Moya. The costumed figures tell the history of the important historic monument, and its first inhabitants. A troupe of actors perform the story live, showing off the new costumes. Evenings of 30 January, 6, 13, 20 February. Admission is RD$150 per person.

Caribbean Fly In The Second Radio Controlled Aircraft Cup will e held in the DR on 29, 30, and 31 January. Organizers promise the competition will feature the world's most distinguished radio controlled pilots performing the ultiamte scale stunts while amazing the audience with 100% extreme action. The Hobbyland flying field is located at a 20-minute driving distance from Santo Domingo at the Grupo Alonzo's site. Pilots are coming from the US, United Kingdom, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and Chile, among other countries.

Mega concert for Haiti Musicians united for Haiti. More than 35 musical stars will be performing at Santo Domingo’s Olympic Stadium on Sunday, 31 January in a fund-raiser for Haiti. Botero exhibition in Santo Domingo 67 works by Colombian artist Fernando Botero are on display at the Palace of Fine Arts (Palacio de Bellas Artes). The traveling exhibition has already been seen in Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Panama, Mexico, Brazil and Spain. It will be in Santo Domingo until April. The exhibition focuses predominantly on the violence in Colombia. Botero says he donated these works to the National Museum of Colombia so that the citizens and peoples of the world could be witness to the cruelty of a people affected by guerrillas and drug trafficking. Botero resides in Italy.

Comedy at the National Theater Roberto Angel Salcedo has the leading role in the comedy, "Me dejo por Nueva York," (He left me for New York). The show opens at the National Theater in Santo Domingo on 5 February. Other actors are Fausto Mata, Irving Alberti, Luis Jose German, Phillip Rodriguez, Linda Garcia, Jose Manuel Rodriguez, Lillyana Diaz, Tony Sanz, Miralba Ruiz and Carmen Elena Manrique. This is a production by Paloma Salcedo. The event is directed by Gracielina Oliveros, and lights are responsibility of Liliana Diaz. Performances on 5, 6 and 7 February at the main hall of the National Theater. In March, it moves to the Gran Teatro del Cibao. Musical direction is by Dante Cucurullo.

Aventura at the Olympic Stadium Aventura at the Olympic StadiumAventura, the popular bachata group, will be back in the DR for a performance on 13 February at the Olympic Stadium. The group that brought us "Por un segundo" has filled the National Theater, Altos de Chavon, Quisqueya Ball Park and now wants to fill the 50,000+ stadium. Romeo, Max, Lenny y Henry will perform for Dominican audiences in this Saymon Diaz production. The most recent CD of the group, The Last deputed in the Top 200 de la revista Billboard and is expected soon to have sold more than 100,000 copies in Puerto Rico and the US.

Centrobasket 2010 in Santo Domingo The Central American and Caribbean Basketball Championship (Centrobasket) is booked for 5-11 July at the Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto in Santo Domingo. This will be the fifth time that the DR hosts the event. On previous occasions it was held in 1975, 1987, 1995 and 2004. The teams will stay at the Dominican Fiesta Hotel. Herasme added that Dominicans who play in the NBA league have pledged to take part in the championship. The 2010 Centrobasket Tournament will have ten national teams for the first time, and they are: Belize, British Virgin Islands, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago and US Virgin Islands. The classification of Belize depends on the appeal result sent to Lausanne, Switzerland about the eligibility of some of their players who were in the 2009 COCABA Championship.This tournament qualifies the top 4 teams for the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship (Pre-Olympic), the top 8 for the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and the top 3 for the 2011 Pan American Games scheduled for Guadalajara, Mexico.
