At least initially nonmembers will not be able to book themselves into the Cabarete property directly. Registrations will have to be provided by an existing member which is what you see on sites like AirBnb, VRBO, Cheap Caribbean etc. If the number of reservations from members keeps the place full, nonmembers may have to wait for the buzz to fade before they will actually be able to get in.

Keep in mind, Cabarete is primarily a means to accommodate some of those members that cannot get a booking at Cofresi due to the demand for accommodations other than junior suites during peak travel times.

There will be a bridge over the main road linking the site to the beach area. Confirmed it with the workers there. Progress is inching forward. Doesn't look like the resort will be completed in March as planned... Maybe May is my guess for part of it and late summer for the whole thing if they continue to work hard... but I have clue... just looks like a long way to go to complete the whole project...

There are posts on Facebook deriding the obnoxious behavior of blocking traffic and even the accidental knocking down of power lines in Cabarete by those doing the construction work for Lifestyles. Not a good thing, but they really don't care about inconveniencing those who live here any more than the mayor cares about repaving the main highway.

The pedestrian bridge over the main road is a good idea and was part of the original plans in the previously failed project.

The think is so big & ugly to Cabarete's quaint appeal it's like the pock marks on Manuel Noreiga's face.

Stayed for 3 nights a week ago. Big Chairman's Circle party at the end of this month. Not a lot of guests at the moment so figured it was a good time to go inhale the new stuff smells.

Food was excellent, accommodations really nice but not opulent to excess. No beach to speak of in front of the property, you need to walk that narrow strip for about 100 feet to get any sort of sand to sit or lay on.

The collapsed stairs pictured in the news article is another example of a good idea that lacked local engineering knowledge to pull it off. The stairs were hollow, constructed using forms that were not thick enough so lacked sufficient integrity and collapsed under their own weight. A better approach would have been solid slabs stacked like a pyramid. Alas, maybe next time someone will give the concept more than a passing thought before trying to build something hollow that needs to be supported from underneath. Sooner rather than later any stairs in that location are going to be pounded by waves. Next attempt should be completed in time for the gathering of the clan beginning Sept. 29.

It's got worse since the photo in the article was taken. The wall that is supposed to "protect" the buildings and land has broken and collapsed, the ground underneath it having been washed away.

From what I could see there was no foundation built for the wall. They need to dig down into the sand two meters and also use marine cement. Its expensive. The engineer does not know what he was doing or cut corners or ??? Its not a job for amateurs.

... same old story, the guy(s) doing the work have no clue what they are doing and why it needs to be done a certain way. Anyone who pondered the situation for 1/2 a second would realize the wall and those stairs are going to take a beating. Well, anyone anywhere, except here that is.

The stairs were actually part of some old construction, long before Lifestyle was built. It's the wall that is new and badly thought out and built.

About ten years ago, Cabarete local council employed a Dutch firm to rebuild the beach. They used the same techniques used to build Palm Island in Dubai. Everyone knows the Dutch are experts at reclaiming land from the sea.

Why don't they ask them to come back?????$$$$$$$$$$$

Cabarete can't pay because the money has been used for "other things"?

Because they did a terrible job !! In no time, the ocean had advanced again on the eastern tip of Cabarete bay. I don’t remember now who did the work but clearly remember that they removed some sort of retaining wall or similar that was in the ocean right off El Velero, and that ended up damaging this side of the beach in less than a year.

They should try some lasting solution instead. That wasn’t it.

Lifestyles has painted a mural on one entire wall of the building on the beachside depicting a couple standing in front of the beach. They also painted a mural on another wall with their logo and in big letters "Lifestyles Holiday Luxury Resorts"

For a resort that is presenting itself as a high-end resort, painting murals on the walls isn't very classy. Pretty tacky.

Maybe they are just going with the feel of the rest of Cabarete with the murals? I love the murals in the other areas in Cabarete.
I did burst out laughing about the wall falling.

The word "Luxury" is a bit overused in the real estate market down there.

The only other murals that come to mind are those painted on perimeter walls of colegios, Mariposa, and the public school across from Janet's(?).

The ones on Lifestyles aren't very "artistic" either. They look more like billboards that belong alongside the highway - and I've seen better looking billboards.

Legal or not, I have no idea what they were thinking building so close to the ocean. They need to get that Dutch company to come back and make them a beach!

Maybe a good idea, but for some reason not used. Never seen anyone used it. Instead, they have hired guards to halt traffic when the people want to cross. Funny and tragic at the same time.

Anyone who knows why?
