Moving back to DR (north coast) when I retire: do or don't

Please help me understand what is wrong with NC? I realize that some posters here, living in NC, constantly complain, but perhaps that does not equal everyone's experience? Also good to point out that I don't know the whole NC, only really POP and Cabarete, but those are unfortunately included...

Exit Fees still being paid in cash

I may now just jinx it, but I've driven all around the DR since 2009 and I have never been stopped. Once in a traffic light in POP while I was in fact waiting for green, AMET (back then it was AMET) came and asked to see the marbete (it was a rental, and they had it in the glove box, who knows...

US Customer Support from DR is Useless

Got it, thanks for the clarification. Don't know that bank, sorry for your bad experience... I once had to ship a card from Germany to the DR, and believe it or not, the forwarder from Germany to US refused the shipment due to the contents, but card issuer had no problem with a forwarder in...

    Pre-Fill your oil filter

I know, but as it's not a huge extra effort, I'm used to doing this... If it did damage to the engine, I would stop obviously... For draining the oil, I always leave it draining for a bit to get as much out as possible. There is also this for added lubrication, not (yet) sure though of the...

US Customer Support from DR is Useless

So just for me to understand: You sent the mail to Domex address in Sosua? I'm asking this because you mentioned UPS in the first post and that they would not send it to Domex in Miami? I agree that this would make it DR related but rather so that the addressing system in the DR is simply...

US Customer Support from DR is Useless

I'm not exactly sure how is this DR related (aside from the OP being in the DR)? It might well be that UPS nor their employees are experts on DR related addresses, as even DR based companies are often not...

A Dominican posted this perspective on FB

Same at my wife's sister's house in a barrio in POP AND where my FIL lives. Both places full of colmados. Where my FIL lives it's not even exactly the best barrio, but there's no noise starting early evening... Correction: where my wife's sister lives, there is a neighbor (in his 60s) that has...

    Getting a visa to Spain

Out of curiosity, just went to the Spanish embassy / VAC page, appears that they use the same appointment reservation system as does my own country but for passport renewals. Yes, that system (VFSGlobal) is a piece of s**t. A couple of weeks ago I had to make appointments to renew the kids...

The complete chaos in immigration at Las Americas SDQ airport

Post 5: I would perhaps simply try to call the airport/migration...

    Pre-Fill your oil filter

As our vehicle is a bit older, I actually only use 100 % synthetic, a better quality oil filter and do the oil change at about 70 % intervals as compared to the recommended intervals, so more frequently...

    Pre-Fill your oil filter

You could be right, I don't have exact facts, but I do know that any time metal against metal is usually not the best treatment you can give to an engine. I have no trouble being OCD on matters that involve a vehicle, as that, has been a decent investment for us... So I'd rather be too careful...

    Pre-Fill your oil filter

Very good video. I have always done this with our Ford, where indeed the oil filter mounts like a bucket upwards, very easy to mount prefilled. Pre-filling also helps lubricate the filter seal which again helps when you remove the filter... I agree on the video with the oil pressure thing, as...

    Getting a visa to Spain

Everything you wrote on the post I partially quoted above, is apparently exactly why at least the German embassy indeed even forbids anyone buying anything before the visa decision is made. I would think whether or not you will realize your travel plans, the embassy couldn't care less, all they...

    Getting a visa to Spain

So just adding to this. Watched a few Youtube videos of people actually purchasing and then verifying on airline website, apparently it should work, but still saying that the website itself is not perhaps the best one built... I have just never had the need for that kind of a service, but...

    Getting a visa to Spain

I do not mean to be rude or anything, but you have purchased documents from that site which were approved by a consulate? I tried the checkout process and it looked kind of sketchy to me as well. And you cannot control whether it's a direct flight or with stops? That would be a no-no for me...
