i was sitting at my second job yesterday and i noticed a family signing their daughter up for classes. so as they approached the table i had that "they must be dominican" feeling. so i asked her mother where they are from and she stated in very elegant english "Santiago, Dominican Republic".
what's so special about this thread is that their daughter is the first dominican to attend the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, one of the top music schools in the world. the tuition is about 45,000 a year and students audition for admission.
i spoke with the father and mother and they was so proud of their daughters accomplishments. i told them of my visits to their country (the father smiled) and the mother thought it was great that i had an interest in their country.
i wished their daughter much luck and the father said they were flying back to santiago later this week.
