You know... they keep doing things like this, I may have to begin to support them ;)

Back in 2007, a very nice young local bartender Uber Matos was out enjoying his day on a downhill bike ride in Puerto Plata when he lost control of his bike and fell, breaking his 3rd, 4th, and 5th vertebrae. To see someone who had been so energetic & full of life unable to feel anything below his middle chest was difficult for his friends and acquaintances. The community did what it could to help and Uber himself showed tremendous willpower and character in his battle to recover, training 4 to 6 hours a day to push his body to recover.

Uber's still in a wheelchair, but this past weekend he could be found back working at his own specially modified bar in Nikki Beach.

Seeing him back working on the beach is a testament to his strength and character. And let's give credit... it says something good about Nikki Beach as well.

Kudos to Nikki & welcome back, Uber!

Another great party night last saturday at Nikki Beach with excellent DJ's and drum performance, Cabarete locals and residents enjoyed seeing Uber back at work.
To my best knowledge it's the first time in Cabarete history that a bar employs a handicapped person in a whirlchair to work as a bartender.
Two thumbs up to the owners and managers of Nikki Beach to make this possible and of course to Uber, who's positive character and strength is an inspiration for all.

Well spotted CFA - he was always the BEST and hardest working barman in Cabarete and for a long time after his accident it looked as though he would be completely paralyzed.

One of his good friends, Maximo, who was with him on that fateful ride, tirelessly collected funds for Uber (we are very proud to have helped him too) to try and get him past the almost impossible task of good treatment).

If there was ever a Dominican who deserved another shot at making a living, it is Uber.
