I have just experience what I can only refer to as the twilight in DR.
my encounter with what is equivalent to a Dominican mafia.
corrupt police. ,military, and politicians. I have never seen such a corrupt side to this country before.

in the past years I had not seen this type of corruption. I like the country, but dont want to live in a place where even the police is worse that a common crook. So, here is my question to any one from DR.

what is the least corrupt place in the country?
no corrupt military, or police, or ayutamiento.

where is the life style in DR, closer to the life style in the US.

a list of the corrupt in DR.

hi....

if we want DR to be a better place and if we have had encounter with corrupt people in the government. why don't we make a list publicly available of the corrupt cops, military, police, etc.

maybe we don't have the power to stop them, but if you let the world know who they are, possibly someone with good intentions and some power in DR. will look into the activities of these individuals.

I have the names, and even took the pictures of a few people that had been terrorising my neighbourhood, a place where everyone is to scared to say anything, because if they do there life is made impossible by what I can only describe as a Mafia.

really, DR is a beautiful country, wouldn't life be better without the corrupt.

I don't think such place exist in the DR, when you run away from corruption you'll get deeper to a Dominican campo, where there is no much corruption, but then is not US lifestyle. Everything here is linked to some sort of corruption when dealing with authorities at all levels, it is expected.

Many years ago while opening a business office in SD my lawyer approached me and told me that in order for us to get the permits, we need to pay a bribe to the inspector. This happened after the inspector visited our office, did his so call "inspection", he waited outside siting in his car. He did not leave until the lawyer went outside and talk with him.

It is a culture embedded behavior, it all starts with education and the government taken serious and strong actions against this type of behavior. However, since most of time they (the government) is also benefiting from this, I doubt any action will be done to eliminate corruption any time soon.

Just look a Nuria's or Alicia Ortega's TV programs at the weekly basis, it tells you that this type of behavior goes from the top all the way down to the most simple and insignificant government/authority worker.

1. What happened? (no names or pictures, please)

2. Make a list of corrupt officials? On a public forum? Do you have a death wish?

Until governments are run by computers there will always be corruption.

Guys, what are you talking about?

Corruption is the best thing that we have here in DR. Most of you obtained your residence permit here very easy because of corruption, your lawyer just pay the bribes and that's it, they don't ask for anything else. You can resolve any problem here just by giving bribes. Police caught you drunk and driving? No problem, give them some pesos and drive home like nothing happened! You need some permits, documents, licenses here? You want to reduce your customs fees for your business? No problem, just pay a little and you have the result! All you need is the right lawyer with good connections. And money of course. Even if you are in jail for something, you can go out, just pay to the right person! And they don't ask too much! The money is the only law here. Corruption is why I live here.

give me some time to put up the story.

Do you want me to tell you my personal story or just what these people are involved in and what there names are?

I'm trying to find a way to tell the story and turn this people in without getting myself and my girlfriend and some other people in more trouble.

when this whole mess started, I went to the fiscalia. not knowing that the people involved where actually police, military, goverment people. when I told the them the story and started taking picture of the people involved. they did nothing all they said was you are telling us your problem but your not mentioning money. so, I left because I should not have to pay cops to do their jobs.

a few days later, when I was walking near the fiscalia, a guy flashing a gun, told me that anyone who would dare go back to the fiscalia telling the story I told would get a bullet in the head. ( this happened after I took the picture of the "primer teniente" involved in this mess.)

anyway, after that when I called my girlfriend she was freaked out, telling me not to call her that she did not want more trouble( she lives near the fiscalia).

so, give me some time, I will probably put the whole story up in the Internet with names and pictures, and give anyone who wants a link. If I think its worth pursuing this bizarre crap. and If I think, telling this will actually make a difference, which it will probably not.

The hard fact is, it won't fly anywhere in the DR. This is corruption central, and anyone who thinks they can change what has been going on here for decades is just plain crazy.

Save yourself a lot of grief, and just let it go. It happens all over the place here, and NO ONE really gives a rat's a**, so why put yourself in harms way by trying to save a country that doesn't want to be saved??

Freedom2009?

Naivet? 101.

If you couldn't change your own world into somewhere you wanted to live then you certainly do not want to start trying that here.

As frustrating as it might seem, your sense of right and wrong are irrelevant here.

US not corrupt? Hahahaha, brilliant!!!

Just because the corruption isn't in your face out in the open like it is here doesn't mean jack. You won't find another US here, best stay in the states if that is what you want to live around, what is the point in moving if you want go bring the same sh1t with you, pointless.

This poster has told us nothing.

We don't know what town in the DR he lives in, how he got there and what his situation is that he's whining about.

Yet, there are two pages of responses. Why is that?

My advice to our DR1 members-do not post one more response until we get details.

If he lies it'll be easy to catch him because the DR is too small, and someone can easily find out if he's telling the truth or not.

Let's not give yet another troll a reason to go on living.

http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/lo...overnment-isnt-corrupt-Interior-Minister-says

Santo Domingo.- Interior and Police Minister Franklin Almeyda on Thursday denied corruption in the Dominican Government and challenged anyone to point to a corrupt official by name.

He said if someone identifies a civil servant who incurs in corruption it would be a favor not only to the Government and to the ruling PLD party but to all of society. ?Because the only thing that currently weakens the PLD is that its own members feel depressed because of the belief that it?s a corrupt government, it is not a corrupt government.?
