Hi all, as stated I have to travel for POP to Santo Domingo tommorow night to pick up my cedula/residency, and have to go to Mr Guzman's office. I am looking for an inexpensive (ie cheap) hotel preferably within walking distance. The office is on Ernesto de la Maza, south of 27 de Ferbrero ave, between Nunez de Caceres and Winston Churchill Ave. I was there before but stayed at my wife's uncle but I don't want to inconvience him, and last time it was over 1 hr drive to get there (traffic). Thanks

There are quite a few hotels in the Gascue area for around $RD1500 a night. A taxi ride in the morning would be about 30 minutes with traffic if the cab uses avenida george washington. if you take a cab around 7:45am you will be at guzman's office well before 8:30.

Thanks for all who responded. I ended up staying at Hotel Bella Vista (don't recommend it) was $60 USD a night, wouldn't have paid $100 peso's a night :)
Other than that everything went off without a hitch, and on a plus side the hotel was only a 8 min walk to Mr Guzmans office.

What made you pick that hotel?

You could have stayed in a nice hotel in Gascue for 1500 pesos, taken a cab to Guzman's office for a little less than $60 USD. Quite often I see people ask for advice but don't bother to take the advice given.

What made me pick that hotel? Well the primary decision was the proximity to Mr Guzmans office. I have only been to Santo Domingo 2 times, the first time I stayed with my wifes uncle, and it took, literally over 1 hr from his house due to traffic. So I was looking for something real close. Also I read online from some travel sites and it received overall positive reviews. I called some of the hotels advised to me on this forum, and since it was such short notice, most didn't have any vacancy. I left my research until the last minute, so I have only myself to blame. But it was a roof over my head, and it accomplished what I wanted, so all in all it was ok, but I wouldn't stay there again, nore would I recommend it to anyone.

That is one thing I learned about Santo Domingo. Two people can say they live in Santo Domingo and they can actually be a 2 hour drive apart with traffic.

Sorry you had a bad hotel stay but thanks for the warning on that hotel. Maybe you might consider coming back to Santo Domingo for the weekend and stay in the Colonial Zone area.
