Looking at Hotel Colonial's website, I see that in one of the pics of the hotel you can see the Santiago monument in the background...so I know that's in walking distance.

Can anyone recommend any bars or restaurants near the hotel that I should check out???

Is Passions within walking distance of the hotel???

Are the safes at the hotel digital safes????

I plan on spending a week at the Hotel Colonial in Santiago soon.

Thanks in advance,
J.B.

It's really not walking distance to the Monumento from that hotel. You can do it, but it's not a short walk. Pasions is not close to the hotel at all. You would need a taxi to get there.

Thanks for the info.......

Another question, can you bring female guests into the hotel free of charge????

Also, by looking at a map I see the Ahi bar is real close to the Hotel Colonial, is that right??????

Thanks again,
J.B.

Some numbers !

I am not a mathematician but I like numbers:cheeky: for precision when making a statement.

Hotel Colonial is about 20 minutes of brisk walk to Ahi Bar.

From Ahi Bar to Monumento : 10 minutes of normal walk,

Passions : take a taxi and pay 120 pesos .

I was at that hotel as a guest when the earthquake hit Haiti last year.

I can tell you that the hotel is very sound.

As to the rest: I did walk to the monument, and it took quite a while.
There is an excellent steak restaurant across the street from the monument, and between the steak and the Presidente, it was a worthwhile walk.

Don't know about bringing guests back. But you can bring a bottle of Brugal and a couple of bottles of rum, and you're fine.

I felt very safe there.

You had better go to the Hotels near the Retonda for your playing. I am not sure if Victor or Lazaro will approve of you introducing prostitutes...I would at least ask. If you pay they can probably stay..

The walk to the Monumento is all up hill...you will smell really nice to impress the chicas..

Chicas friendly you might meet at "Ahi bar" are way up in class I doubt they will go to Colonial hotel.
You better hire a cab and take them to a motel...
You will have to compete with the local hookers, and let me tell you it will be hard for you as most of the Dominican guys who frequent this place drive nice cars: Mercedes Benz, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini Etc, Etc.

Its a poser spot. BUT Colonial is way down there on Cucurillo and there is nothing there during the nighttime. Shoot, the only reason to be there in the daytime is to catch a bus. Or flea market around for a while. HB is right thats a sweaty walk if you do it, or you can just take a K car up the hill if you want to. Dont worry about smelling nice, just overdo it on the cologne and wear shiny jewelry and no one will notice. Why didnt you pick a hotel closer to the Monument and all that night life?

So which one is your favorite???

I'm looking for a motel that is close to the nightlife, is chica-friendly, has a good room safe, the rooms are fairly soundproof, and is inexpensive.

Thanks.

Most Dominican girls who are frequently seem hooking in theses bars are of the poor or low middle class neighborhoods but their mentality is set in a different social class level "high class" they only dress designers cloths and 90% of theses girls have never own a car, they catch a lot of taxis and on daily basis they uses carro publicos.
My wife all time complain about that, she says all time:
Yo no entiendo que es lo que estas mujeres Dominicanas tanto privan si ni siquiera un carrito tienen!!!!

I agreed 100%

Please bear with me, Bachata, I'm trying to learn Spanish and am trying to figure out the grammatical composition of the Spanish sentance you posted.

Here is the translation I got from the computer:

I do not understand that is what these so much Dominican women deprive if not even a cart they have

Could you do the correct English translation for me???

Much thanks,
Jim

OK frito, stop taking advice from people who have never stayed at hotel that they are trying to put down or get advice about..

It all boils down to how much you want to spend, and what you expect as far as being comfortable..I knoe Lasuras at the Colonial and he is a nice guy, and will give you some advice and help if needed..

There are 3 hotels at the Colonial..The older one is maybe 15-20 bucks a night..so you get what you pay for..The second one is newer and probably about 10 dollars more a night, but well worth it. The third hotel is the newest one and will probably run you around 33-35 u.s per night..I personally would only probably stay at the new one. It is clean, and it has overnight security and a overnight clerk....and yea, you can bring in your pay for play chica. If thats your thing. But use some commonsence, and stay away from the nasty street girls..

And you will need to take a taxi to get to the Monument area, unless you want to show up full of sweat..

If you want a better Hotel that is closer to the Monument, then the Matum is your best bet..It will cost you around $60. but you can walk to the Monument and the many bars and restaurants close by..There is a little bar in front of the hotel, and some decent food vendors right in front of the hotel..They give you free breakfast with coffee in the morning..Ask for the Manager Anthony , and maybe he will give you a deal for a longer stay..And I have seen gringos there with chicas, so I assume it's guest friendly, but again you need to use some reasonable judgement on who you lay down with, and who you want people to see who you lay down with..

PM me when your in town and maybe we can get together for a few cold ones..

I don't have a clue of how I can translate the word privan as it come from the verb privar that means private but no in this specific case. It' refers of a person who is trying to show up superiority over others....
Some expression are very hard to be translate from Spanish to English for me some time.

Here is the translation from a Canadian linguist:cheeky:

I don't understand how these Dominican women act like they are superior to others when they don't/can't even own a small car.

Well, Hotel Monumento is new and it goes for $20/night and I hear they have wi-fi on the 1st floor. Alberto is similar in price to Monumento. The rooms have little stoves and neveras though if sparsely decorated. Matum has a pool and restaurants adjacent on both sides. Likewise Hodelpa, Gran Casino and AlohaSol, close to banks, they are on the main drag, some places to eat. I think you should stay at the Monumento because its so close to where you want to be at night. They have the phone number somewhere in here.

And correct I have never stayed at the Colonial. It looks like a fleabag junkie spot from the outside. Now I dont know if it is the same indoors BUT why would I intentionally want to stay at a hotel that has a bus depot down the street? During the nighttime it may be quiet, but during the day it looks like some street in Marakesh.

And my take on JJ statement is "I do not understand what is with these Dominican woman, they are so selective and they don't even have a car." I think it means that beggars can't be choosers.
