Staying at Ocean Blue & Sands in Punta Cana. Have been to PC several times and wanted to explore a bit. Interested in Bayahibe area. Any charters or excursion available and that are recommended? How difficult would a guagua trip be on our own or should we rent a car? Any trips that also include La Romana? Thanks.

Thanks for the info but what I am looking for are tours or excursions to get me from Punta Cana to Bayahibe. If the tour included Altos de Chavon, so much the better. Trying to avoid a car rental.

Punta Cana to Bayahibe by bus

By guagua involves multiple bus changes. You need a taxi to get from your hotel lobby to the bus station at Fruisa. From there take a guagua to Higuey (45 minutes). From Higuey take a guagua in the direction of La Romana. Ask the driver to drop you at the Bayahibe turning (40 minutes). From there take another guagua into Bayahibe (10 minute ride) these come from the direction of La Romana.
Hot n sweaty bus journey, be prepared to wait in the sun (no shade at the Bayahibe turning).

On the return journey once in Higuey you need to get to the Punta Cana/Bavaro bus terminal. Sorry, not sure if the bus stops there.

Take the bus to Bavaro, not Punta Cana (that one goes in the direction of the airport). Get off at Fruisa bus station (or Steve's corner bar if the bus stops there) and take a cab back to your resort.

A taxi from Punta Cana to Bayahibe will cost around 110$US one way...

There are myriad excursions and tours to Bayahibe, a paradisical fishermen's village located in La Romana, on the Southeastern coastline of the Dominican Republic. Bus trips are safe and convenient, as a bus leaves every 20 minutes practically towards the destination. Another option are transfers, a safe and efficient method of transportation. I would recommend you visit the "Travel Information" section of www.explorelaromana.com for schedules, as well as contact information of the various tour operators servicing both Punta Cana and Bayahibe. You will also find useful information shall you decide to rent a car.
