so i just recieved my renewed gun permits! and to my surprise i realized that they both have an X marked in the first box on the BACK Where it says Faltas!!!! How is that possible?? ive never been pulled over! ive never had to show my permits to anyone, and i renewed my permits on time! why would i have a fault? So i called Seip AKA MIP abd spoke to coronel Whatever his name is, and he looked up my permit and said that i renewed late! i told him that it was impossible because my permit expired on feb 1 and i renew on january 14th! he said that in the system the permit was marked as late, i told him that i would be glad to go to siep and get this situation sorted out! because i have my recipt from banco reservas that shows the date! they also have an error on my first name! he said theres nothing they could do! even if there was a mistake theres nothing they could do, and if i wanted that X removed that i would have to sell the gun and buy a new one! WTF!!!!! ALmost 6,000 pesos that ive been paying for this thing yearly and, u come and tell me that ur screw up is my problem??? uve got to be kidding! even if the permit wouldve been late ive NEVER seen anyone get a Fault X because of late renewal! EVER! a few friends of mine have all recently renowed and none of them on time, and non have Fault X on the back! im gonna call tommarrow again to see if i can get some more answeres! this thing is bothering me! i cant sleep! lol

You are living in a country with so many incompetent and careless people placed at their job levels. Increase that by ten times for government employees. I had a similar problem that required me to take a trip to Santo Domingo and get it straightened out. It sounds like the person who responded to you was making up some rules as he went along which is also a common practice.

Is it not amazing that selling the gun supposedly renewed late would fix the problem for a new weapon? As if the gun itself was responsible for the late renewal. How do people like this dress themselves in the morning?

Having your name spelled incorrectly can cause serious problems. That should indeed be changed.

Good luck getting this sorted out.

djuno718, don't feel bad I have the same issue -- an X in the first fault box of my gun permit. It happened 2 years ago through no fault of mine. I've tried to no avail to get the X removed and I always get a song and a dance most of the times different songs but always the same dance :). Try as I might to get this issue resolved has brought no joy. I gave up trying last year and renewed this year two weeks late on purpose because you can only get faulted for renewing late just once :) :bunny: :bunny:

What?s the phone number to call to check on one?s renewal?

Been over 3 weeks and it shows as "Procesando"
........... and additional comments as "Examenes Incompletos"

Which to me could mean they just have not completed processing the renewal or just about anything else....

Just dial *GOB (*462) from a land line (cell?) and tell the person that answers that you want to check the status of your gun permit. You'll be transferred to the correct department.

I evidently missed the posting in the newspapers, they now require a test at certified laboratories for anti-doping.

You are correct. I missed the memo too and also have to do the antidoping as well. Here is a newspaper article that states the new obligatory antidoping test.

Interior y Polic?a da plazo para renovar licencias

and the list of authorized laboratories:

Secretar?a de Estado de Interior y Polic?a - Armas de Fuego

I called a few of the numbers on the list and only the Lab in Mirador Norte answered the phone. The price of the antidoping test is RD$1000, it is relatively quick and the results are sent directly to MIP. I'm going to go do my test later today. I'll post about my experience. BTW the direct number to call MIP is *788

if ur license is expired.....i think if ur still vigente u can renew like normal! this is for the people that havent renewed in 3 or more years! honestly i think these people are wasting time on the wrong persons! instead of going after the bad guys and the delincuentes they go after the people who are legally registered! No good!

Nope! The antidoping test is a new requirement for ALL gun license renewal. I just did mine, it is quick, easy and painless. I got to the lab and there were 2 people before me. I waited 15 minutes and I was called. I was asked for my cedula and RD$1000. I was accompanied by a young man to a bathroom, was asked to pee in a small plastic container and given a receipt for the transaction. I was told that the result of the antidoping test was going to be sent to MIP electronically and there was no need for me to return to pick up the test result; unless I wanted a copy of the results for myself. All in all a fast an efficient process.

... and continuing in "Typecal Dominican" idiosyncrasy

The official site lists 5 "Garcia Garcia" labs in Santiago for the testing.

HOWEVER, you can only get the testing done at the principle site on Ave. Imbert across from the Stadium.

BTW, it?s only $900 pesos in Santiago............

The fee you pay here for one year will get you at least 6 years in Florida.....

If it's a new requirement for ALL renewals, not for expired ones, where is the information about that on MIP's website? How it works? If I go to Ban Reservas to renew next time, they will send me to make the pee test first? Where is the official information about the new procedure?

I renewed last time in December without any tests.

MIP published the new antidoping requirement in the newspaper. I posted a link to an article that states the new antidoping requirement clearly. Below is a link from the MIP site and another newspaper article where the antidoping requirement for ALL future renewals is clearly stated.

and...

You live in a third world nation yet want first world service. Yes, in the USA if a company screws up they bend over backwards to correct the problem promptly. It happens to me all the time here in the states.

In the DR, sit down and wait and wait and wait for your turn if ever. I think those who have problems in the morning dressing are the very same ones complaining on this thread and many thousand other threads. You decided to live in the DR so reap the whirlwind, LOL!!!

And on a side note to all ex-pats in the DR- if you demand service from employees earning what you give your kids as allowance or what you spend on a nice dinner in the DR at some steakhouse, then don't be surprised if someday you get popped in the mouth, gun and all.

Please don't take this the wrong way but many of you are spoiled brats. You come to the DR and demand service. Who the heck are you to demand anything. If you live in the DR, expect more and more of this. It's the contract you signed to get the gig.

But if all of this bothers you, remember O&C's cardinal rule for living and investing in the DR.

Treat the DR the way you would a casino. Enter only with money and by that extension goods you are willing and able to lose

There won't be any complaints because you invested in a gun or house or car that you can lose with no pyschological damage.

Ok, thanks, but what is the official procedure of the renewal now? I have to go to Ban Reservas first as before? Do I need to go to the lab the same day, or before, of after? Who send the results of the test to MIP, the lab?

The process is basically the same as before with the exception that now an antidoping test needs to be submitted as part of the gun license renewal process. You go to Banreservas, pay for the 'Tenecia' renewal fee and the carry addendum if you want to carry your gun. You then go to a MIP approved lab to get the antidoping test done. The lab will send the results of the antidoping test electronically to MIP. MIP will evaluate the submitted result and grant or deny your gun license renewal on the basis of the antidoping test result.
