It's funny how most of us come complaining about how terrible life is in the D.R and worse of all having to live with the tigeres.
Corrupt government officials, drugs, prostitution, unemployment rates e.t.c. But if you think about it for a second, the island has remained to be one of the peaceful nations. I haven't read the area being under civil wars or having been struck by famine. Somehow, even the poor uneducated natives are able to make a living. So lets not sit behind our computers lamenting how terrible the place, when it could actually get worse.

I drew a small caption from aljazeera that reads,

"According to a report released by the United Nations, a state of famine has been declared in some parts of southern Somalia where the worst drought in over half a century is already being blamed for thousands of deaths."

It's a big shame France is nowhere on the help list, yet it comes first in bombing, funding and arming libyan rebels.

I agree it could be an awful lot worse! Then again, there is a history of bloodshed (remember the Trujillo era?) But then again, I love the DR. If you go there knowing what to expect, you can live a happy, peaceful life...It's nice to see a positive P.O.V on the DR! :)

IT's COMING....

A civil war is on the Horizon.......The Cibao region after all these years of neglect is finally organizing a movement to detach itself from the central goverment, lead by the CSG (Cibao Seperatist Group). This storm has been brewing and its coming..........

Oh, please  Separatists? Really? Exactly what are they going to separate? The Cibao?

What are we going to have? Luxemborg of the Caribbean?

Yeah, once in a while some noise is made by an anonymous poster somewhere, but let me ask you this: wouldn't a legitimate group be able to spell "separatist"correctly? And wouldn't such a group in the DR have a Spanish name and logo, since style is so important to EVERY political group?

It is always good to be optimistic. Indeed, there is always worst.
Even I, as an African, wouldn't want be caught dead in Somalia (or any country with a civil war for that matter)...I am content with being from a poor but peaceful place, lol, and pray that we won't find oil, diamonds or anything worth fighting for :)

I guess most good stuff go unnoticed. A nice cruise across the caribbean is overlooked, and 'it-can-be-done-better' mentally shortly follows. Try cruising parts of the indian ocean without being held hostage by the competing pirates.

I disagree with your politics. It eeks of a Socialist slant.

He does have a point though. Seems some folks spend entirely too much time complaining about DR instead of going out and enjoying some sunshine. But that happens everywhere, I suppose. Follks on talk radio love to complain about the weather, but have forgotten how much fun it is to walk in a light rain....

C'mon Robert, give the guy a break! He's only been able to throw together 5 posts in 15 months. Give him a little more time to practice...
He must be exhausted after all those "CSG" meetings...

yes, DR is better than sierra leone or sudan, just like it's better to have one leg amputated instead of both. there is always room for worsening, you know.
