Guys,

hi i am new here. I am heading down to Sosua again for some sun and fun. I like to right my wrongs and on my last vacation there I sure came up short in the music department. When I had company back in my room when things went quiet and to kill the time they always wanted to listen to some music--my ipod consists of country rock gareth brooks, trace adkins etc so needless to say it wasnt the stuff these girls wanted to hear.

So can anyone suggest some stuff they like in terms of artists, compilations etc i know its merangue ...reggaton etc

Thanking you for your time

Randy

Fiddy Cent, anything Hip Hop or Gansta. Reggeaton- Daddy Jankee, Don Omar, pretty much anything that is played at strip clubs or discos.

I found old school salsa was very popular. I was surprized how many knew the lyrics
El Gran Combo
Oscar de'Leon
Celia Cruz
La Excelencia(newer band)
Fruko y sus Tesos
La Excelencia Salsa Dura - YouTube

And yeah, Reggaeton might be popular, but it's hard to find anything that can be endured. About the only tune I can handle is this one and that's only because of the dancers:
Los Benjamins-Noche de Entierro (VIDEO OFFICIAL) - YouTube

As for Bachata, some Antony Santos, Raulin Rodriguez(older), Frank Reyes and Aventura would be a good start.
Aventura - Obsesion - YouTube

Keep in mind this is a country where this was a major hit for several months:
Watagatapitusberry Official Video - 3Patine - YouTube

Most girls will get a big laugh that you have that one...

I think you need to address your personality problems instead of using local music as a sticking plaster. Look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself why things "go quiet" and why you and your guests need to "kill time". Your only concern should be that the time will pass too quickly. Still, at least you have spotted that redneck music doesn't go down too well in this country.

If I wanted a personal evaluation of my activities Ill go and see a shrink, save your personal snide comments about associating country music and red necks to to yourself.

I am still amazed country goes down so well in most of the lower 48....but then again GW bushie was re-elected for a 2nd term, so my amazement is always short lived.

And if the OP ever gets to really know some families I hope he sees the depth of multi-generational love dominicans have for mult-generations of musicians. Tweens, grand parents and all in between bopping to the same 40 year old music one minute, and then Aventura the next just does not happen
in the US. It is very cool.

Sorry Mr Randy T (none monger guy), so you have real life relationships with these girls you don't pay for fun on your visits down, but are unable to converse sufficient with them to ask them what kind of music they like, hahaha!

Carry on with the country music, sounds like it is the only yee haa!! you are getting in the bedroom:bunny:

(sorry, just so easy)

You won't get anywhere playing what they hear every day. Introduce them to DISCO!
