From today's Sosua News:

Maundy Thursday and Good Friday (April 5th and 6th) are celebrated with the utmost respect of Holy Week in Sos?a. On Friday afternoon, so on Good Friday, Bernardo V?squez, the pastor at the parish church in Charamicos, will lead a large group of believers along with a large wooden cross along the beach. This day is a quiet and reverent day where it is not allowed to play music or dance. But the following Saturday and Sunday will be celebrated again. From all corners of the country, from Santo Domingo, Montellano, Puerto Plata, Santiago and La Vega, the people will come to visit Sos?a, to bring the city to flourish. Especially at the beach it will be one big party. In all the streets of the resort cars, trucks and buses will be parked, which bring the large number of beach visitors to town.

The volunteers of the civil guard, led by H?ctor V?zquez will provide a peaceful and safe celebration. He did send all the members a few weeks ago to a first aid course.

It is expected not to occur a lot of problems because the police and civil guard will act strictly against irregularities and drunks. Everybody will be checked at the entrance of the beach for prohibited weapons and glass bottles, so nobody ends up with fatal injuries in event of a fight. The tourist police and the civil guard will be highly visible present as a preventive measure.

There will be a lot of action at the beach. Apart from fish, chicken and other food offered, many music groups perform on the beach. All kinds of sports competitions are organized, where you can win nice prizes. Also a Miss Bikini election will be held.

The festivities are sponsored by the Brugal Rum Factory and the Sasino water plant, which is located in Sos?a.
Towards the end of (Sunday) afternoon, it will be quiet again at the beach. Most visitors travel back home. With the end of Semana Santa celebrations, starts the low season for tourism in Sos?a. The coming months will be a bit quiet in the beach resort
