Puerto Rico to Punta Cana

I have some friends who are looking at travelling from Puerto Rico to Bavaro in November. I know it is easy enough to fly from San Juan but they wondered if there was a ferry which they could take as it would be more interesting. Does anyone have any information please ?

Ferry's only to Santo Domingo. By then the new highway should hopefully be open so they'd have a 2.5 hour ride afterwards to Punta Cana.

Thank you for that I will pass it on.
I do have another question on the subject of travel. Is it possible to fly from Punta Cana to Puerto Plata and is so I should be grateful to know which airlines operate the service, this time it is for my benefit !
