Now it's 8000 pesos for 4 years + 1000 pesos VIP = 9000 pesos.

But how much was the Permanent-Residency renewal fee before the August deadline (for 2 years) ?

Just curious.

$4,000

They probably made it $8,000 so they would not get confused.
(2yrs + 2yrs = 4yrs / $4,000 + $4,000 = $8,000)

(Not that they are not confused already)

I'm not sure I understood your post, are you saying that before Agust 1, 2012, the renewal fee was also 4000 pesos for the 2 year extensions ?

Or are you just confirming for me what I already know about the current renewal fee ?

Just curious.

The previous cost was $4,000 RD for renewal and $100 RD for a document for a total of $4,100 RD for 2 years.

In that case the current fee of 8000 pesos for the 4 years (+ 1000 VIP) is not a raise in prices.

Doesn't that make you feel better, that the renewal fee hasn't changed from last year ?

4,000 + 100

The last time I renewed it 2 years ago it was 2500 pesos

On 2nd, Dec. 2010 I paid 4,000RD$, probably incl. the VIP fee for the renewal of my 'residencia'.
The 100 Pesos for the form need to be added to that.
Entonces, the same as Windeguy paid.

Since my renewal was done in Santiago, there was no such thing as a VIP fee. I had to wait until the card was brought from Santo Domingo to Santiago for me to pick it up. Something that will not be possible to do under the new rules.

Has anyone been to Santiago Migracion to ask what they will now be doing? Will they be closed or will they get their own doctor and xray machine and fingerprint machine? And what about the new office in Punta Cana?

Enquiring minds would like to know.

My Residency card is there now waiting for me to pick it up. I hope to find out more information when I go there, but quite honestly I don't expect that office to be up to speed on the new regulations.

Oh ye of little faith! When I went there to see if I could renew my out of date residency and was told had to go to the capital as needed my fingerprints and photo done, one of the staff took me to one side and said I should go straight for citizenship and to give her US$2000 and she would sort it for me. Seems pretty on the ball to me! (btw I declined!)

Give us an update how much you paid just for the renewal fee in Santiago and how many years your residency card is, 2 or 4.

Why don't you go back and pay another 4000 pesos (like I did) and get another 2 years on your card ?

Because I was told it was not possible to do that by the woman at Migracion in Santiago when I was renewing in June or I would have done so.

Ohhh in June....

The world is divided between those who renewed before August 2012 and those who renewed after August 2012.

You renewed your Residency in June and yet it's still waiting for you to be picked-up in Santiago ??

Were you sleeping for 3 and a half months ?
