Your Dominican girlfriend may be a liability!

A fair word of warning to all foreigners and Dominicans who have live in girlfriends...dont tell me I didnt tell you so: The Dominican Supreme Court just upheld monetary compensation for a live-in girlfriend of a man who died in an accident and she claimed jurisdiction over his estate. This historical decision will have major repercussions on this island as it gives a solid base to Law 24-97, which already gives ample protection to women from emotional, psychological and physical abuse and implied in its precepts that concubines or mistresses had as much rights as lawful wives to protection under all civil and criminal laws and it pretended to give a statute of limitation of three years of live-in status for full recognition. So, pandoras box has opened now and what I jokingly said in a previous post about changing your girlfriends every once in a while, may now be a matter of landing in the poor house and a necessity. The golddiggers are celebrating today! Of course a good Separation of Benefits Statement is still your best bet.

2)I mentioned in a previous post related to airport and customs corruption by officials and baggage checkers that top government officials were involved and that the dirty money flows from the bottom up, but never from the top down. Well, today the Chairman of the Dominican House of Representatives is calling for the censure and expulsion of one of their deputies, PRD member Jorge Luis Rojas, for clearing the way for a friend to travel with a false passport and visa thru the Ambassadors VIP Lounge area, where people normally do not get checked. But this is just a tip of the iceberg...the fact of the matter is that all of them do it! Hey, they even steal each others electronic voting cards when a member of the Assembly is absent and vote whichever way they want. Naturally, the Chairman Lila Alburquerque ordered an investigation on the vote fraud, which will last until 2010 before the results are published.

What is this big deal about the "wife" ,"girlfriend" getting the "money" when we die? I want my wife to get "The Money", the pension,the house, the cars,the kids, everything! I,ll be dead! As the saying goes: "Never saw an armoured car following the hearse to the cemetery!! But then I know the differance between a Hooker/goldigger and a wife, or a "soulmate" When I was younger,and single, I was a "wildman" here in the DR. I didn,t eat or sleep, just scre-wed. Now I am "older" and married. I want the woman I chose to have me and everything that I have!If we split,or I die I leave everything to her and the kids! That,s being responsible. I never had any problem making lots of money,or spending it!I still like "hookers" don,t ever think otherwise,I just know who they are ,and where they belong,and it,s not in your house! Criss

What I meant is that I agree with Chriss (God have mercy of my soul!). What is the point of living a person that you can't trust. If you are a normal, level-headed, straight man then you will eventually have a relationship with a woman, why not chose wisely in the first place.

In a country where 40% of the couples never marry this makes a lot of sense to me.

Another stellar day on DR1.If it keeps up like this I'll be able to cancel my cable TV. Can't wait to get down there. (I probably can't get away until early December.) Unfortunately, I have no need of Viagra - wish I did, I might act like less of an idiot. Meantime Criss, what's a "jeepeta"? By the way, I live on Riverside Dr. & 145 st. in Manhattan - once you turn the corner the neighborhood is easily 90% Dominican. It sounds like all the music is on helium! - DW

As a survivor of over 30 years in the music business (producing records) and all that that implies, I tend to shy away from chemicals at this point. Of course there are exceptions - I never say never. But with a very few exceptions I can say "been there, done that". Viagra, however, is not one of them. No point, just facts. Men ought to know the law and what could be coming to them for not knowing it. I thought feminists wanted well informed men, as many Dominican men still believe in wife beating. You should not be concerned at all if you're not a goldigger. I never shoot myself in the foot. I am too well balanced.

If you live on Riverside Dr. and 145th. you are ready for Dominican Republic. It takes a survivor to live in that neighborhood. But follow my advice, get yourself a good lawyer before you start fooling around here. It's getting dangerous for your pocket.

Hey Criss: my warning about live-in girlfriends was not made for perfect husbands like you(obviously you have a hidden agenda with the swingers club) Most of us are still sinners and we must carry our lawyers cell phone line open all the time. Plus, we are not talking about when we die, we mean even our daily cash flow could be embargoed by an angry girlfriend. If you don't believe me, visit the Villa Juana feminists enclave and see all the cases being brought up there by women, many of which are bogus money schemes.

Just watch, how your average street puta will become all so sweet to you in places like boca chica and in sosua. "te amo mucho papi....lleva me a tu casa?" Quiero cuidarte... no puedo vivir sin ti..." etc.
Hell no, I am sticking with the weekend-warrior life style for the time being until i find the one who is equally financially stable as I am and doesn't want my money. I find the girls from upper middle class to be more stable and less of an opportunist.
It?s the low life streetwise girls that you have to look out for. If they present you with an immediate problem in the very first days of your acquaintance, which requires money to resolve, then lookout?trouble is up-ahead.
Now that these girls are aware of their legal rights I would imagine them to become more aggressive in getting what they are after. All they have to do is to be nice to you for the time which it requires to become legally recognized as your live-in partner and bam? they will change. You would be in exactly deep doo doo as you would have been in many states of USA.
I see that some ex-pats do feel that they have found the love of their lives. I wonder how many of these girls are actually in love with a guy who is retired and old enough to be her father. Obviously it was the financial strain upon her which compelled her to sacrifice her youth to endure with the old man. I mean, just ask yourself a question: what would it take you to get married or live with a 55 yrs old lady if you are 24 yrs old (or worse if you are only 18 yrs old) handsome male?
I can also see if you are retired and live in a rented apartment with your young sweet heart and feed her rice and beans and maybe had to buy her mom a TV and a fridge to buy her approval; then you have little to worry about. Because you have no business or a serious job which pays you well in DR. If you turn over and kick the bucket (die), the girl only gets your TV and fridge. However, if you have bought a house with your hard earned dollars (or pesos) and make good money (from a self owned business) on monthly bases then you would have a lot to lose. In my case, I have made a decision to live in DR for the rest of my life. I am fairly young and make decent living. I am saving money and will bring in some cash from USA to invest in a house. Just imagine and try to put yourself in my position; am I ready to risk it all to a girl who is only my live-in-mate and was only interested in getting 50% of all my hard earned labor?
No way!
One must be very careful now and try to think from the real head with a brain. Your live-in mu?eca (doll) can turn into a bruja (witch) in due time.
Protect your investment and your freedom in DR. Find the right girl to stay with and not fall into the trap.
So here is a little peak into what is a decent girl and what is a gold digger (low life):

Decent girl usually has a job and usually is presented to you via a friend or a family. She may not be willing to go out with you right away. Forget about kissing her and inviting her to your apartment is usually out of the question. Most young single girls live in with their family and cannot go out alone with you; usually have to be accompanied with her cousin etc. She usually lives in a normally built house (concrete block house with complete finish and a decent paint job). She normally studies in a university and expects to become professional someday. She would not be found in bars and on the melecon alone or with another female friend. She is not looking for a gringo.
I can go on and on?.but, use your imagination and you would know what I am trying to get at.

On the other hand, low life gold-digger is as follows:
She is usually found in the car washes or bars where guys go out to have a quick pickup.
She wonders on the streets at various hours of the days, aimlessly.
She is very quick to get in to your car for a ride.
She falls in love with you on the first Cuba-libre or a cocktail.
She would order the most expensive dish on the menu and wouldn?t eat it or wouldn?t know how to eat it.
She lives in a house with her aunt or with a cousin (never with her family).
The rooms have no doors, instead curtains and walls with gaps big enough to stick your hand through.
Your age is of no concern to her.
Her mom is in the hospital and she needs money for a surgery.
She needs money to pay her rent or she would be kicked out.
She is having problems where she lives and needs to move in with you immediately.
She will be the best cook and clean and iron for you without asking.
She will give you the best sex that you have had ever in your past 20 miserable years of your marriage.
Again, I can go on and on?..

Finally, the message is clear to them all. Now its up to you to protect your interests and prepare to be one step ahead of them all (gold-diggers).
