From what I've seen here (7 years) and read on DR1, you would probably not be able to make a living as an IT worker in the DR. But good luck.

I just add to CV last 7 years, but actually it is from 1996 till now :) Is it really hard to find out IT working there? Probably own business? for example IT support or outsourcing or something like that?

The only IT jobs you will find are in Call Centers. Those call centers are all in Santiago and Santo Domingo. If you really want to work in the high stress environment of a call center you will need excellent Spanish AND English.

You will also be paid a low wage for your skills.

If you can't come with at LEAST $5,000 US in your pocket for "seed Money", at least come with a return airplane ticket!
Your chances here are not good!

There is a sort of large Tech center between the SDQ airport and Juan Dolio on the N side of Route 5. Perhaps you and your CV should pay a visit there.

Rio San Juan is beautiful, but tech jobs there are likely to be scarce. Intellectual jobs are mostly centered around Santo Domingo and Santiago.

?Sabe espa?ol? Eso le ayudar?a cantidad.

There are plenty of certified Dominican IT guys here.

You won't like the pay.

That is the project of a good friend.

It's a ghost town.

Go see for yourself.

I have only driven by there. Someone plunked down a huge amount of dinero there. I saw cars entering and leaving, and assumed that it was operational.

It's operational.

A big chunk of Gubmint cash is in the Cyber Park, a public/private JV.

Great concept, however. Just little if any market.

Folks may not know that all the under-ocean tele/internet cables go ashore right there...which is a primary reason why that location was chosen.

There are underused, skilled tech guys all over the DR.

i have a friend who is an IT/network specialist in DR and he does make fairly decent money on this. but he is really good and was picked up by some big companies and names to do work for them. he even did some jobs for leonel. however, his takings are getting lower now as there are more and more people willing to do his job for less money. if you are really good and can land a good job you will make a decent enough living but the competition is fierce...

Gentlemen:

Unfortunately , your job experience and qualifications mean very little here in the DR. Are you bi-lingual? That would be more valuable. Unless you are opening up your own business the going will be tough trying to find what you are looking for at a salary that is sustainable for your life style. Find a company outside of the DR that is willing to pay you to work from home via the computer and then consider the move if possible. Good luck.
