From today's Sosua News:

Tom?s Callender, the President of the Association of Hotel and Restaurant owners in Sos?a and Cabarete called on President Medina. He wants the four-lane highway, which is currently prepared to be constructed between Santiago and Puerto Plata, to be extended to Sos?a and Cabarete. Because the dual carriageway will make the beaches of Sos?a and Cabarete faster and much better accessible for tourism. In particular, the road through Cabarete is currently a bottleneck for traffic. Tom?s Callender has talked about this with the president by telephone.

The president said he takes the needs of the hotel and restaurant owners seriously.

Cabarete needs a bypass so there are fewer tourists and expats that get killed expecting drivers to see them... THAT is a bottleneck.

Clueless... No wonder tourism is dying on the NC.

I agree. They need a bypass. The road inside Cabarete is not that long and all traffic not stopping in Cabarete should not enter Cabarete.

Wonderful idea a bypass so you can avoid visiting either and proceed to Samana

actually, with a bypass, those who want to visit Cabarete can still visit. those who are on their way to Gaspar Hernandez on business do not have to navigate through the labyrinth of ill-parked velocipedes, and the inevitable traffic snarls.

Where the hell would they put a bypass?.....through the park?...The Govt would have to buy out all the businesses on the south side of the st.......That wont happen..Parking will have to be eliminated even to make it three alternating lanes?...

Just a thought.....

The obvious route for a Cabarete bypass is via the existing El Choco track but that is too simple for consideration!

Curious. What do you mean?

When they think that a road will help bring more people or solve the current issues.
As we all know, most issues in the DR come with a knee jerk reaction, instead of actual planning and implementation.

Fix what they have now, better still, build a bypass for Sosua and Cabarete and work on addressing the roads and infrastructure in those towns.

Maintenance of the streets we already have, maybe widening the street a bit for moto's so it is safer, rebuilding the sidewalks in both towns and fixing the sewers in some areas of Sosua so there isn't the smell from them when walking along the street would helpful. We could also use reliable electrical power at a lower cost for business.

A bypass road could do wonders. El Choco road is already in place. All they would need to do is improve it.

Every few years they start talking about a Cabarete bypass. 25 years ago it was in the national budget. 15 years ago, when they started filling the cane fields from Playa Dorado to Montellano, this was supposed to 4 lanes all the way to Sabaneta de Y?sica, bypassing Sosua and Cabarete. 5 years ago the government published elaborate plans and drawings for the Cabarete bypass, going from the area near Costa Azul Golf, along the edge of the lagoon and reentering the main road in the area of Camino Del Sol. I’m sure that it will still be a dream and talking points for the politicians 5 or 10 years from now.

I know, they could build a causeway across Cabarete bay. Don't repeat that, they may take the idea seriously..
