The accident in the news reports was on the Coral Highway, between Higuey and La Romana. The accident the OP was asking about was on the Bulevar Turistico between San Juan Mall and the airport. So far I haven't heard anything.

I posted this, I am sure the info I got was on the wrong hwy. The one on the Coral Hwy is the only one. I got it from a gas station attendant.

Think a car lost control and crossed the center divider on Coral Highway and hit a tourist van and killed two people. It was near one of the Toll Booths...Probably texting or talking on the phone and distracted from the task at hand.

The grouchy grammarian: "The car did not lose control; it went out of control."

Just like the idiots here that speed around you on the left only to cross in front of you to pull over and stop on the right of you.

Exactly. Dominican drivers are stupid! All they do know how to do is put their foot to gas pedal, tailgate and race at very high speeds. Most probably do not know how to read or think but they want to go fast and pass every driver in front of them. They not understand red or green lights and what what means, they do not care about right of way, the stupidos only care about
racing to nowhere. Dominicans are the most careless, rudest, most stupid, and most frightening Dominicans are IGNORANT
people we have ever come across. Why other decent law abiding caring drivers And the government do not seem to do
anything about these idiots ... Yo no se!

The Dominican republic holds the dubious distinction of having the worlds highest traffic fatality rate. I am a retired Mountie from Canada and a certified Police Motorcycle driving instructor. I ran VIP escorts in urban areas for the Prime Minister and VIP guests in our country. I will not drive a car or a motorcycle in the Dominican republic. i take the bus, walk or use a taxi. I have ridden some scary ass code three on a Harley with lights and sirens going in a City with rush hour traffic, but I never felt fear until I watched Dominican drivers......

?Al ch?fer del veh?culo, se le perdi? el control! Spanish has a way of stating this that fits the situation grammatically, I think.

By the way this morning a lady driver with kids in the car overturned outside of Cocotal on the medium of the HWY. She was headed towards the airport. Fortunately no one was seriously injured. How it happened I don't know, but I saw the car overturned. There were the usual large group of Dominicans there hanging around. One guy was selling water bottles.

Saw it too. SUV seemed pretty bashed up and a car had the front pretty much destroyed. I'm guessing they had to hit pretty hard...

There was also some sort of collision with at least 2 cars involved near the Shell station on the boulevard around 1pm.

I went to have a look at how the accident could have happened on the Coral Highway . The metal guard is broken in only one place ..within 5 kilometres of the toll booth ..but at this place the road makes a gentle curve . It looks as if the SUV going from Punta Cana not only went through the metal guard rail but it also went through a large concrete drain which is about 3 feet deep and then crossed onto the opposite lanes going the other way . The SUV must have been going at a tremendous speed to get over the culvet and to destroy the small bus
