My family will be relocating from northern NY as soon as we can get the details worked out. Thanks for the advice. I wish I had read the post about motorcycles running into parked cars before we came out to investigate.

I am still trying to run down info on Free Zones and what it takes to open a brewpub. If anyone has a direction I could start looking in that would be a great help.

thanks

You will be the second brew pub owner ever in the DR, if you pull it off. I understand one was attempted in Santo Domingo.

Hopefully you will be doing it for fun. If you need it to function well to live here, it might be something you want to reconsider. I never recommend to anyone that they come here if they need to work for a living.

Whereabouts in Northern NY? I can understand anyone wanting to leave there.

Various beers brewed on the same premises as where it is sold. Popular in the US. Not so much in the DR.

What area are you thinking of doing this OP? Puerto plata? Sosua? cabarete? Really not sure how well it would do here but I don't trust any kind of bar business on th NC!! Stressful venture so many flip but there is the odd winner which cousin be yours?!

Just bring lots of money!! Good luck with your Brew Pup!!

Sosua. The black hole of the bar universe. They all get sucked in, never to be seen again.

One problem with draft (draught) beer is the shorter life.

Isn't there a draft beer place in SD??

they are rare, from what I know....

I had Innis & Gunn draft yesterday.......excellent...... Lake Huron

So you speak fluent Canadian, eh? Do you like it really hot? How about loud music? Yes to all three you are home. Only one other question. You are not a right wing republican? No is good to the last. Just seeing how you will line up and if you are on "their side" or one of the good guys. Welcome. Anyone who can make beer is welcome in my neighborhood.

The all "DELUSIVE"resorts serve "Presidente" on tap.
Cheaper for them, they serve in small plastic cups, and no broken bottles in the pool area.

Unbelievable. What on earth does that have to do with wanting to open a micro-brewery on the North Coast? The guy has two posts and you think it's important that he agree with your socialist beliefs? Or he might not be welcome? How about you follow the rules?

As one poster said already..the issue of clean filtered water is a biggie..I refuse to drink the bottled water here as I don't trust the lack of Sanitary Regulations!!!

First, welcome to DR1!

Admittedly, I don't know too much about breweries, but I would suggest you move down with the intention of making beer for yourself and your friends, and then, as you learn more about doing business in DR (it's very, very different from most of EU or NA), consider brewing and selling to a few select bars, and expand from there.

I'd certainly caution against relying on generating any island-based income, particularly when you first arrive. Really good jobs, particularly on the NC, are scarce for gringos.

Take your time, and best of luck. We'll look forward to reading about your adventures on this site.

So, what do you drink? You realize that anything that isn't imported goes through the same reverse osmosis process, and that all meat, fish, and produce are washed using the same water?

If you don't trust it, just boil it before using. A few minutes at 212F will solve all your problems, very cheaply.
