Most Dominicans understand money flowed to amend the Constitution
The Gallup-Hoy polls published today, 14 July 2015 in Hoy newspaper conclude that 52% of voters believed that legislators may have been compensated to support the amendment of the 2010 Constitution that allows for the re-election of President Danilo Medina. Nevertheless, 64% of the 1,200 eligible voters polled approve of the change to the Constitution. The poll, which was conducted from 1-5 July 2015, nonetheless indicates that 66.9% of those surveyed thought that the agreement between the PLD factions of President Danilo Medina and former President Leonel Fernandez to choose the candidacies in the 2016 national election does not benefit the country. Fernandez had aspired to be the PLD candidate for president in the 2016 election. Polling conducted up to the time of the campaign to modify the Constitution, indicated that Fernandez enjoyed broad support among PLD delegates and the general voting public.
