iciHaiti - Culture : D-18 Carifesta, an exceptional showcase for Haiti
03/08/2015 11:15:52

Caribbean countries responded in large numbers to participate in the XII edition of Carifesta Festival to be held in Haiti from 21 to 30 August 2015.

Will be represented member countries of CARICOM including: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent , the Cayman islands Montserrat; also French overseas territories: Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana; as well as Mexico, Cuba, the United States and Canada.

The organization in Haiti of Carifesta, that the Caribbean consider as their Olympics of culture, is symbolic in many ways, since for the first time this event will be organized in the only non-English speaking country member of CARICOM, a rare opportunity for Haiti to project a positive image and share the diverse richness of its culture and its tangible and intangible heritage.

The Haitian government will spend 300 million gourdes to organize this important festival which will host nearly 2,500 participants (artists and officials) from 19 countries of the region. Remember that this Festival will take place in the month of August, in the cities of Port-au-Prince, Cap Haitien, Les Cayes, Gonaives and Jacmel on the theme "Our roots, our culture and our common future".

They can't provide for the Deportees,

Deportees from DR have no money and cannot fill in the hotel rooms.

Not a priority......it is what it is.

so this entire mess is about being poor. they are not wanted anywhere.

Yes they are looked at by other Haitians as the undesirable diaspora mainly because they have acquired nothing of value (language, culture, education, liquid assets etc) to haiti or haitians.

People do feel sorry for them as they could not escape to the advanced countries or at least an english speaking country. DR being next door and easily walked into was their only option.

But Haiti is their home and they are free to return to Haiti anytime they want. Even the poorest of Haitians would share some food with them.

The government simply does not have the required means to help them.

And NO we cannot and should not divert scarce funds from more important projects.

GWOZO I do not think that this is the right answer ..They want to return because they have two Haitian parents but can not get a birth certificate in the DR often because neither parent registered them at birth and there fore they do not have any Dominican papers..they may not be looking for any assistance from the Haitian government ..they are just being asked to leave the DR because they do not have documentation.

What important projects the caribbean festival/Marley's party.

Haitians are stateless in the country they were born in due to not having identification of such. No proof of who they are or were they were born. Surely one of the nice NGO's or countries that are so worried about the state of the Haitians can come up with the money or equipment to supply some kind of identity for the people of Haiti.

Nope, they are to busy campaigning and blaming the DR for everything...

Also I heard they are saving up for the upcoming Rihanna concert in Port au Principe. :bunny:

Bienamor. I think they are working on it

not long ago probably last month, there was an article published on dr1 news by the head of the company that is working in DR to make the 2016 elections electronic. that same company is also working in Haiti to rebuilt their registry and train people to do that. he mentioned some organisations had donated 50 millions toward the project. right now i believe he said they were 5 millions registered to vote and they were working toward adding 7 million to the registry.
I remember that article because of 2 things
1) first the same company had access to the registry of both countries (Hispaniola)
2) the money for Haiti was donated. ( you can't run a country on donations)

It's not up to you or any dominican to decide what is important to Haiti.

Haitians in Haiti with no ID is Haiti's problem and does not concern foreigners.

Worry about dominicans and your border.

Only DR is whining about haitians not having ID.

Not Haiti, not the USA, not Canada and not the NGOs.

So apparently it must be important to DR....then let DR pay for it.
