Can you just build a 'lift' for regular toilet ?

A pedestal type thing to boost the height instead of buying a special toilet

Or, I have seen big/tall toilet seats affixed to a regular toilet

Hi,

Anyone know if I can purchase a taller-than-normal toilet in Las Terrenas, or is that another trip to the dreaded Capital?

As on another thread build a plywood box to set the toilet on and raise the height.

Not sure how much plumbing work you guys have done, but the Toilet goes right into a 4 " main with no TRAP, like under a sink or even like the shower
There is a wax seal there for a reason. There may be what we call a Lead Bend there ,but its not for trapping gases as its horizontal .
The "trap" on a toilet (to hold the gases from leaking) is inside the design on the toilet itself.. if you ever break one apart you will see it..
So If you gonna raise the toilet, better make it cement and tiles, with proper pipe and connections to that 4" main and a wax seal at the bottom of the toilet, dont go messing with a plywood box cuz it sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Use the plywood as a form to build a pedestal of concrete to the height desired. Make extra sure that it is completely level on the top, then put down the wax seal, and the toilet atop that.
You could stick tile on the outside of the pedestal. because concrete is pretty unsightly.

When we bought our condo in Punta Cana, it had Dominican-style low-boy toilets in both bathrooms...practically needed a pulley to get off the John! Very inconvenient for us "older folks". Our contractor, when doing some other work for us, installed two chair-height Kohler toilets that are extremely comfortable and easy to use. When you flush them, the water goes half-way to Puerto Rico!

Toto is another brand sold in Santo Domingo at the Baccessory store at Av. Lope de Vega that are chair-height. Think Unidos also has them.

Make a list of things to do in Santo Domingo and come for a visit. For sure you have not checked out the two new Dominican food restaurants of the Colonial City… Jalao and Buche de Perico.
