Geovanny Esmeralda of the Dominican Republic hit a solo home-run in the bottom of the 1st inning to bring to DR within 1 of SA, but 5 errors made in the 2nd and 3rd innings proved costly as SA scored 6 runs. Luisa Nunez pitching for the DR regrouped and shutout the South Africans the rest of the way. The DR ladies scored 4 in the bottom of the 7th to make it close but their rally was stopped by SA pitcher Liezl Diffenthal.

Wish I could get a pic of the team but cannot find one, since they replaced Cuba at these World Championships. They were selected due to the fact that the DR is hosting next years Pan Am games.
