Thomas Cook Upgrades Caribbean Capacity, Adds Tours To Canada
Thursday April 10, 9:11 am ET

FRANKFURT -(Dow Jones)- Travel company Thomas Cook said Thursday that it is increasing summer capacity to add 10,000 seats, or two extra flights a week, to the Caribbean because of "double-digit" growth in bookings to that region.

The company, which is a joint venture between Deutsche Lufthansa AG and KarstadtQuelle , is still running 9% to 10% behind in overall summer bookings compared with the same time last year. But it said bookings are up to vacation destinations in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and the U.S.

"What we're seeing is a growing demand for long-haul travel," spokesman Markus Ruediger said.

Thomas Cook is also set to add new weekly flights and tour packages in May to Vancouver and Halifax, Canada, for the summer period.
