Try this on for size: 2lbs average USDA Choice Hamburger, 4 tbls Chili powdwes, 1 tsp ground Red pepper, 2 large yellw onions, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 2 cans tomatoes, 2 cans Ranch style chili beans(or make your own with Reds/Pintos and chili powder/garlic), 1 tbls paprika, 1 tbls oregano. In a large pot (8qt) saute hamburger and onions. Add tomatoes from can, mashing them well as added, add other ingredients, fill to top of pot with water and bring to a boil. Lower flame to simmer, keeping water level at thickness desired, for several hours. Add 1/4 cup masa flour to thicken. Salt to taste, serve. Freeze what you don't eat. Serve with Krispy Saltines.

OR

5 choice beef ribs, 2 pkgs mixed veggies,1 or 2 cans tomatoes,2 large white onions, 4-5 potatoes. Dice the onions, cut the main portion of meat off the ribs and cut into 1/2" squares, add 3 tbls oil to 8qt pot and heat tojust below smoking. Add meat, ribbones and onions. saute until almost brown. Add ctomatoes from can, crushing as you do so. add veggies and water to the top. Don't skim the grease from the top yet. Cook down 4-5 times, skim grease off the top and add potatoes which have een cut into 1/2 inch squares. Soup is ready when potatoes are done. Freeze in baggies what you don't eat. Serve with french bread or saltines.

Sounds like something that you could easily make in the DR. It would probably be difficult to find a brisket bbq, though.
