I obtained a divorce on February 19, 1973 in Santo Domingo, and had a search made with the Court Registry by another party who did not find a record of the divorce. Please tell me what options are available to obtain an affidavit or other document that from the Court. I have to get a copy of the divorce whatever it takes. My wife is applying for permanent residency in US, being married to a US citizen, but the INS officer insists on having a record of the divorce that took place over 30 years ago. Can anyone help me obtain the papers, or advice on how to do it?

Do you have a photocopy of the divorce decree? Or of the recording ("pronunciamiento") of the divorce at the Civil Registry? Or of the publication of the divorce notice in a newspaper?

If you have any of the above, it should not be difficult to obtain a certified copy from the appropriate Court unless the divorce was fraudulent, as many were around that time.
