Tropical Storm Mindy has formed near the northeastern tip of Dominican Republic.
At 5 PM AST the center of Mindy was located near 19.2N/69.0W. This is just 34km (21mi) east of Samana, and 57km (36mi) east-southeast of Las Terrenas. Mindy is moving toward the northwest near 19 km/hr (12 mph) and this motion is expected to move the storm away from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic and to near the Turks and Caicos Islands in the next 24 hours.
Maximum sustained winds are near 65kph (40mph) with gusts to near 80kph (50mph). Some strengthening is possible during the next 24 hours. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 185km (115 miles) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1004mb (29.65 inches).
Periods of heavy rain are expected to continue over the northeastern half of the Dominican Republic for the next 24-36 hours.
